Apache POI and Open Office document formats
Apache POI provides a very simple yet powerful API for creating/modifying/reading Excel documents. Prior to the 3.6 release, POI was able read/write Excel documents only in Microsoft’s OLE Compound Document format. 3.6 onwards, POI has included the support for Microsoft’s OOXML (Open Office.org) standard for creating and reading Excel documents.
